Braga - Football and Gladiators

Visit to Braga last week, to the stadium built by Eduardo Souto de Moura for the eurocup of 2004.

Fog, light, concrete and scenography, this stadium is more an arena dedicated to football than a regular stadium. The stadium is located in an old quarry that was emptied in order to install a sport complex. It is made of two face-to-face concrete sides, one leaning on the rocks, the other over the entrance of the site. The roof made of aluminium and concrete is suspended on steel cables, providing shadow, rain protection and rain evacuation on the side of the field, into two aqueducts.

The stadium stands, its concrete structure facing the bare rocks of the quarry.
